A Leader Who Understands Brokeness, Healing, and Hope
Kathy N. Washington founded the Was ^ Bent But Not Broken Foundation, Inc. with a simple but powerful belief: no matter what life has bent, God can restore. Her journey into ministry began at age eleven, when she “was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost,” and her life since has been marked by resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to helping others rise again.
Raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, Kathy learned early what it meant to serve, support, and uplift others. She spent more than 30 years working in ministry, walking alongside individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult seasons. Her own experiences as a divorced, single mother strengthened her empathy for those navigating hardship, trauma, and transition.
A Vision Rooted in Service
Kathy’s leadership has been recognized across the Power House of Deliverance Churches, Inc. She was elevated to Overseer in 2018 and, in August 2025, to National Women’s Director of The Power House of Deliverance Churches of Apostolic Faith, Inc. These roles reflect her ability to guide, empower, and inspire women of all ages and backgrounds.
Her ministry roles include:
- Associate Pastor
- Director of PHDGC Women’s Ministry
- President of the United Matrons
- Guardian in the Guardianship Ministry for new members
- National Women’s Director (elevated August 2025)
These leadership experiences directly inform the heart of Was ^ Bent But Not Broken: a safe place for women and families to heal, rebuild, and thrive.
Professional Expertise That Strengthens the Mission
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Hospitality from West Virginia State University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling at Grand Canyon University. Her blend of ministry experience, business training, and counseling education equips her to lead a nonprofit that is both compassionate and effective.
Her work focuses on:
- Emotional and spiritual support
- Women’s empowerment
- Family strengthening
- Crisis navigation
- Community outreach
- Restorative programs for those overcoming trauma, instability, or life transitions
A Heart for People, A Mission for Change
As a mother to Sidney and Kla’Neece and a loving grandmother “Honey” to Nar’Mond, Kathy understands the importance of family, stability, and support. Her personal journey fuels her passion for helping others rebuild theirs.
She often shares the scripture that anchors her life and her work:
“He that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6
This belief is the foundation of the Was ^ Bent But Not Broken mission: to remind every person that brokenness is not the end — it is the beginning of restoration.
Why Her Story Matters to Those We Serve
People come to Was ^ Bent But Not Broken seeking hope, direction, and a path forward. Kathy’s life shows that healing is possible, restoration is real, and no one has to walk alone. Her leadership ensures that every program, every service, and every outreach effort is grounded in dignity, compassion, and faith.
